Job Description

The School of Veterinary Science (SVS) at The University of Queensland (UQ) invites applications for a clinical-track academic position in Diagnostic Imaging. The Gatton campus is located in sunny South East Queensland, approximately 1 hour drive from the capital city of Brisbane and within 1.5 hours of the world-renowned Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast regions. Full-time and part-time options are available.

Come and join the evolving diagnostic imaging team at UQ, currently composed of three part-time board-certified radiologists (1 x DACVR, 1x FANZCVS and 1 x DECVDI) supported by a full-time radiographer and two veterinary technicians. UQ VETS consists of Small Animal, Equine, and Production Animal Hospitals, has a solid, diverse clinical caseload, and an exceptional multi-disciplinary team of clinical specialists and educators. The comprehensive diagnostic imaging service has the following equipment: Philips EPIQ 5 and 7, Philips IU33, GE vivid 7, and Esaote Delta ultrasound units, DR Radiology (SA and equine), newly upgraded PACS (Carestream), medical grade computer work stations with Dragon voice dictation software, Toshiba 16-slice multidetector CT with large animal table and pressure injector, nuclear medicine suite, Hallmarq equine standing MRI unit, access to small animal MRI at St Lucia campus, and plans for an onsite MRI service for small animals in the near future.

The role

The position will promote and develop expertise in diagnostic imaging for companion animals, horses, and avian/exotic species; some flexibility is available to support individual clinical interests. The successful applicant will actively contribute to the clinical and didactic teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students, residents and interns. A contribution to clinically-focused research and/or innovation in clinical practice, as well as a key role in engagement with the veterinary profession, is expected.

The SVS understands the need for flexibility in employing Veterinary Radiologists given the current market, and is supportive of individual interests and working arrangements. All suitably qualified applicants will be considered, including those that are interested in a part-time appointment with a balance of outside work (e.g. teleradiology).

The person

Applicants should possess a BVSc (or equivalent) that is registrable in Queensland, together with specialty board certification (ACVR, ECVDI, or FANZCVS) in diagnostic imaging. Board-eligible candidates (recently completed or in the process of completing an accredited residency training program) are also encouraged to apply. Additionally, possession of a Research Higher Degree (e.g. MPhil, PhD) will be advantageous.


A full-time continuing appointment is available, at Academic Level B/C depending on applicant qualifications and experience.

The full-time equivalent base salary for Academic Level B will be in the range AUD$95,771 - $113,728 p.a., plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$112,052 - $133,061 p.a.

The full-time equivalent base salary for Academic Level C will be in the range AUD$117,319 - $135,276 p.a., plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$137,263 - $158,272 p.a.

In addition, this position may attract a clinical loading. The University also offers a relocation allowance, research start-up funds, and annual financial support for continuing education. A work permit can be arranged for applicants from overseas.

Our Selection Process

Please note that Panel Interviews have been scheduled for the week commencing 02 December 2019 at The University of Queensland's Gatton campus.

Research seminars and lecture topics will be provided with adequate notice to shortlisted candidates.
