The North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks prospective students interested in veterinary and biomedical research. We offer two programs that may be of interest to you, and have travel scholarships available to visit the campus to learn more about the programs.
(1) The Comparative Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. This program is particularly structured for veterinarians considering an academic career and is ideal for veterinary specialists who are looking for an opportunity to obtain advanced research training. We know that you have already had a significant amount of course work at this stage of your career, so the program is designed to minimize course work and maximize your research opportunities. We offer concentration areas in Physiology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Population Health, Neurosciences, Pathology and Cell Biology as well as additional educational opportunities including industry out-rotations, grant writing mentorship and a teaching certificate program. Many of our post-residency trainees complete the program in 3-4 years. https://cvm.ncsu.edu/education/comparative-biomedical-sciences/
(2) The Comparative Medicine and Transnational Research Training Program offers fellowships to provide post-graduate (DVM) research opportunities for veterinary specialists in well-funded laboratories that will lead to a doctoral degree (PhD). https://cvm.ncsu.edu/cmtrtp/
